There is one marketing sin that I see every marketer make and it is so hard to avoid. Everyone gets so focused on the headlines, the funnels, and all the other jargon of the ad that they forget about the most important aspect.
Chances are you have made the same mistake yourself. After reading this article, I want you to go back and look at all your ads and you will be able to tell instantly what you did wrong.
In the next 5 minutes, I will share with you the secrets of the best of the best marketers. This is what separates an expert from a rookie. Once you apply this principle in your business, you will be able to skyrocket your advertising with returns you never thought possible. Let’s begin!
Looking for the answers
I read hundreds of successful ads and many marketing books but this one thing still wasn’t making any sense to me. I was analyzing these ads left, right and center trying to figure out what makes an ad successful and what makes an ad just a piece of information.
After spending so much time and so much frustration, I decided to ask my mentor. He told me very vividly, “Ad is supposed to sell. PERIOD. It doesn’t need to be complicated….. Anything else is just lazy marketing.”
After getting a vague answer I went and decided to look at some of the ads again. It was just like a light bulb was turned on. It finally started to make sense.
The problem with today’s ads
We are practically taught from schools and colleges to use heavy words to sound smart. When in reality all it does is overcomplicate the sale. This might be one of the biggest misconceptions, because it does one thing and one thing only, and that is confusing the customer.
When a prospect looks at your ad they are supposed to say, “ahhh, this is exactly what I was looking for. This is for me.''
You want to make it easy and as simple as possible for your customer to say YES.
Why do very few ads succeed and most don’t?
There are hundreds of books written on human psychology and what makes a person buy your product or service. I am not telling you to read all these books because they all boil down to one simple thing.
You see, the most important part of any ad is an OFFER. It has to inspire the customer to make the purchase from you.
Most people make this mistake. They work so very hard on the ad itself but all they can come up with for an offer is “Call us now” or “book a call for free consultation.”
One of the biggest challenges people run into is mindset. It can hamper your ability to create offers, so then the whole thing falls apart. When many people think of an offer, they say, “Well, we're going to have to discount our product...” But I’m here to tell you, that’s just not true.
One of my friends owns a restaurant. He told me there is a new restaurant opening down the street, and he will have more competition. I told him to come up with a better offer than them. The first thing that he said was, “We are not going to sell any cheaper…… How can we make any profit if we give a discount?”
This is the mindset issue that most business owners run into.
I am talking about bundling, not discounting. You make your offer so attractive the customer only wants to buy from you.
For too many advertisers and marketers, the offer is an afterthought, just tacked on at the end. You’ll often see this as a website with no reason given to go there.
Or a big mattress sale at the furniture store, where the offer is just “Come on in!” The Offer deserves creative thinking because IT is where you succeed or fail.
There are so many ways to write an irresistible offer that it is impossible for me to list them all here..
Remember, it is not about slashing prices; it is about creating an irresistible offer. Every. Single. Time. Without a good offer, your ad is as good as dead.
